Physical Description
He stands at about 5'9" (175cm); slender-looking but well-toned, athletic more like a soccer player than a football player. He has a mongoloid body type with a pale complexion, long raven-black hair that is always tied back, and almond-shaped gray eyes. He has an incredibly beautiful face, and more often than not mistaken for a woman. If he shows a facial expression, it's usually one of some shade of anger or annoyance. Otherwise, it's mostly remembered as an indescribable blank. He has a tattoo of an 'Om' over his left breast. He had been given this tattoo when he was very, very young but its significance is unknown, even to him. Typically, during his downtime, he wears a simple outfit of boots, black pants and a white shirt. His shirt is generally only buttoned partially, showing of the well-muscled chest that is, undoubtedly, masculine. When he’s working, he wears tight leather with a long high-collared coat, gloves and knee-high boots; all black with outlines in blue.

Personality
Very cold and aloof. He keeps a vast distance between himself and others and does what he can to maintain that distance. All that seems to matter to him in life is his missions. Dedicated to almost a fault, he takes on each mission with superior efficiency but little passion. He respects very few people, if anybody. Only those who are very familiar with his mannerisms dare call him a 'companion'. the only emotion he ever shows is anger; in fact, he's notorious for his short fuse. Cross his path and you might find yourself at the wrong end of his sword, a katana named "Mugen". It should be emphasized that he is NOT an emo. He doesn't angst and he doesn't brood. He's just one pissed-off bastard.

Abilities/Strengths/Weaponry
A gifted swordsman who can put veterans three times his junior to shame. His skills with the sword are phenomenal and almost unmatched (except for a select few). Having fine-tuned warrior skills at such a young age, he is now one of the most highly valued assassins amidst the elite class. Small and stealthy like a cat, evading him is quite a difficult task. But it’s mostly due to his fanatical dedication that makes it very difficult to wiggle out of his sights once he has found his prey. The weapon his uses is a katana he calls "Mugen". It's just a sword, like any other, but in his hands, it is pretty much a weapon of mass destruction.

One of his most infamous traits, beyond his swordsmanship is his glare. He could enter a staring contest and send the opponent whimpering into a dark hole in less than three seconds. For those who can withstand his gaze, they can’t help but feel a chill run down their spines, knowing that they could be greeting death personally if they’re not careful with him.
He can cook a mean meal, if he feels up to it, one that could probably bring tears to the eyes and carry with it a taste of heaven. Perhaps that is exaggerating a little, but one would never go hungry if Kanda’s around.

One characteristic that he would never ADMIT to possessing as a talent even if his very life or mission depended on it, is his beauty. In fact, Kanda is almost too beautiful for his own good! How this can be seen as a strength is his fate to figure out.

Weaknesses
Of course, he is human, and like any other mortal is very much prone to pain and suffering. While he is small and fast and extremely hard to hit, the hits made on him are almost double in effect due to the impact. He's also the type that not only kills the enemy but is willing to destroy both building and floor with them! A smart enough enemy can use his insatiable appetite for destruction against him. While it's hard to get out of his sights, the "prey" can still wiggle out of their predicament by taming him. Kanda has absolutely no loyalty to anyone, and would just as soon turn on his own brother/sister/cousin/family pet/whatever if it's convenient for him. Offer a better price, and you'll have a willing assassin on your side for the time being. The fault of his dedication comes in when he becomes extremely anal-minded about his mission, almost to the point where he completely ignores the bigger picture and thus may lose valuable information and put him at a disadvantage that could have unfavorable results.

Unfortunately, Kanda had not taken well to his studies as a child (learning how to kill and all) and therefore has a very limited reading and writing comprehension (though he speaks as eloquently as any average joe, take out a too-big word here and there). However, big words tend to confuse him. As does common sense in general, most of the time.
He can also be duped. One would have to go out of his way to do so, but it CAN be done!
Beyond the battle tactics, Kanda also has a slight weakness for soba tempura, vanilla bean, strawberries, the lotus, and kittens. He’s also not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, gets seasick, and has ZERO-tolerance for alcohol.

History
Originally a native from Navarre, Tartarus, Kanda was taken from his home when he was only four years old and raised by his current "master" to be an assassin for the legendary organization, Eternal Lotus.

Apparently, Kanda’s father had been involved in some “bad business” with a powerful lord on one of the southern islands. Perhaps he had moved to Tartarus in hopes of escaping whatever dirty past he had left behind. Unfortunately, his past caught up to him one night in the form of Eternal Lotus, who‘s head honcho boss happened to be that very lord Kanda-senior had tried to escape from. The entire family was killed except for little Yu. The assassins would’ve killed him, too, except one of them noticed the Om tattoo on his chest. Considering this particular Om is the symbol of the “Lotus”, the assassins became extremely interested and instead of killing him, they brought him back to their lord in the southern islands.
The lord saw Kanda as potential, perhaps may even become something more than the strongest of his assassins. He released Kanda to be raised personally by the leader of Eternal Lotus.

At first, Kanda began working as an errand boy for the organization and personal servant to their leader. From time to time, he was treated a little roughly, but had been mostly ignored by the other members. His master treated him indifferently, only acknowledging the young boy’s presence when he needed something done. At the age of eight, Kanda began taking interest in swords, particularly a shiny katana his master always had on display in his bedroom. One day, Kanda became brave and took the katana from its place. Of course, being so small, the katana was too heavy for him and he drops it. Hearing the crash, the master came tearing into the room, discovered what has happened, and Kanda was given a sound beating as punishment. A couple of months later, the master approached Kanda to give him a shinai, a wooden practice sword that is used specifically for the training of kendo. From then on, Kanda was no longer an errand boy and finally became an apprentice to the Eternal Lotus.
Which might be a little dangerous, even for them.

Kanda is good at kendo. In fact, he’s a prodigy. At the mere age of ten, he evolved in skill so rapidly, sometimes he was allowed to use a real katana in several aspects of his training to begin getting a feel for the sword. More than once, he was approached and challenged by those several years older than himself, all of whom he was able to defeat. At the age of twelve, he was finally strong enough to hold a katana effectively and shortly before his fourteenth birthday was initiated into the Eternal Lotus as an assassin.
Aside from kendo, Kanda’s master also taught him ninjitsu and judo. While Kanda is also highly skilled in these particular martial arts, kendo is without a doubt his signature style of fighting.

The only people he ever becomes close to are those he kills, so he doesn't have much history in relationships with anybody. He doesn't remember his family much, so he can't really say that he's sad that they're gone, though some of the more distant parts of his memories rumor that his parents were very loving. His aloof nature could be due to his master's disciplining, but it's difficult to say.
